- Sovereignty is the basis of democracy. People in democracy can exert their power. They nominate their leaders. Despite both "omission & commission", the government appears to be accountable to the general population.
- "Political equality" is a cornerstone of democracy. It implies that every person is regarded equal before the law and enjoys "equal political rights" whether caste, ethnicity , race, religion, or sex. "Equal politics" gives each citizen the "voting rights".
- The real govt is carried out in a democratic structure with the support of the party that acquires the "majority of votes". The federal structure is another feature of India 's democracy. The "Indian Constitution" in Article 1 establishes India as a "union of States". The States are independent as per our "Constitution". They are free to do other things & are relying on the center on certain other matters.
- The "Council of Ministers" in Indian democracy are jointly accountable to their respective legislative authority both within the States & at the centre. There is no minister accountable alone for any govt act. All the operations are carried out by the whole Council of Ministers. "Democratic govt" must create mechanisms from which popular opinion may be developed on different issues. Legislature is the key platform for "public opinion" evaluation & expression.
- In a democracy, majority rules are created, but minority views are always respected. They are welcome to give their "opinion" . Democracy as a govt promotes constructive & negative elements of any idea through open debate and critique. Many of the population must recognize the minority 's opinion, or democracy is totalitarian.
- There is a rule of law in democracy. This implies "supremacy of law" over all overruling the law. Legislation cannot be jeopardized under any circumstances. Democracy is generally based on permission, however, not coercion/force. Through dialog & debate, the problem can be resolved by gaining "consent from the majority".
- Democracy requires a society that is "safe & free". The public opinion is the basis of all the government's activities. Various groups, societies, organisations are created to address freely the issues and solve them. Democracy is a govt by "adjustment & compromise". The ruling party and outside the party must take into account different views. There are other proposals to be taken into account by the government
- The "welfare government", a key feature, is prevalent in most democratic countries. Democracy is a "powerful weapon" that enables all kinds of welfare. It maintains the dignity, freedom, liberty, etc. As a "welfare government". Democratic judiciary is the symbol of democracy. The courts do not rely on the administrative or legislative authority. No political agency will control the justice system.
