Answer:

Topic : Generations of Computer

Introduction:

The term Generation indicates the type of technologies are used in the computer construction, the new technologies improve the speed accuracy and storage capacity of computers.

   S.No Name                                           Generation & Description

    1        First Generation                           1946-1959 & Vacuum tube

    2        Second Generation                       1959-1965 & Transistor

3        Third Generation                         1965-1971. Integrated Circuit

    4        Fourth Generation                     1971-1980 & VLSI

    5        Fifth Generation                      1980-till & ULSI

 Advantages and Disadvantages:

1. First Generation:

Advantage - They were capable of making arithmetic and logical operations. They used the electronic values in place of the key punch machines or the unit record machines.

Disadvantage - Less operating capacity. High power consumption. Produce high temperature.

2. Second Generation:

Advantage - Low cost, better portability, better speed than first generation computers.

Disadvantage - A cooling system was required. Constant maintenance was required.

3. Third Generation:

Advantage - Fast and reliable. They used faster better device for storage.

Disadvantage - IC chips are difficult to maintain. Air conditioning is required.

4. Fourth Generation:

Advantage - Small in size, and very less cost. They were very compact faster.

Disadvantage - They are less powerful and had less speed than the main frame computers.

5. Fifth Generation: Advantage - They faster very cheap and have the highest possible storage capacity.

Disadvantage - They may make the human brains dull and doomed.
