Agitation raised against the construction of Indian Dams:

Narmada Bachao Andolan, Sardar sarovar Dam: In 1979 government took decision for raising height of sardar sarovar Dam motivated by it will provide water to the about 40 million people.

In 1985 medha Patkar who had lead this agitation visited Sardar Sarovar dam and its came to the picture that they did not fulfilled basic environmental conditions.

There were lots of people around which will be affected by this construction but there is no planning for that and they didn't check land records. That's why this Movement took place.

This is just a Simple and Major example of Dams agitation. There are so many dams like assam dams have agitation against them. They have different circumstances but the main point of agitation is that it will harm livelihood of people and affect geological factors of land.

The construction of dams has posed various severe threats on the environment at large.

It submerged huge patches of forested land, displaced many people and also destroyed flora and fauna.

This destruction of land and environment and the people started opposing the such constructions.

People lost their livelihood and property.
