Masdar city is constructed as a zero-carbon, zero-waste, car-free city in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The city will depend primarily on solar energy for its power.

1. Concentrated solar power (CSP) systems use mirrors to focus a large area of sunlight onto a much smaller area.
2. Reflectors, or heliostats, reflect sunlight onto a central receiver which stores heat as molten salt.
3. This in turn generates steam which drives a steam turbine and electricity is produced.
Masdar city has a total area of 54 acre field full of solar panel. It’s a huge area with as many as 88, 000 solar panels in total, controlling the city’s electricity.
Importantly, with no light switches, movement sensor technology is used to light up the city.
Also concentrated solar system and Photovoltaic is used in tandem to trap electricity using large mirrors.
