Niels Heinrich David Bohr (1885–1962) was a Danish physicist who made fundamental contributions to the understanding of atomic structure and quantum theory, for which he received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1922. Bohr was also a philosopher and a promoter of scientific research.
In nuclear physics, the Rutherford–Bohr model, or Bohr model, was introduced jointly by Niels Bohr and Rutherford in 1913. According to this model, there is a small, positively charged nucleus in the central part of the atom and electrons revolve around it in circular orbits. This model is similar to the model of the Solar System, the only difference is that the centripetal force required for the circular motion of electrons is obtained from the force of attraction between the positively charged protons and the negatively charged electrons located in the nucleus, not from gravity. This model is a slight modification of Rutherford's atomic model – its use of quantum physics.
