Tiger protection program in India.
- The royal Bengal tiger is said to be the national animal of India. However due to increase amount of hunting and poaching of wildlife there has been strict laws that was enforced in the year 2002. Hunting and poaching of wildlife specially of tiger was strictly punishable with a fine of up to 50000 rupees and 7 years of strict imprisonment. In addition to this it was a non bailable offence according to Indian law. this was done due to the reduction of the number of tigers across India to slightly more than 1000
- in the last 18 years there has been a slight increase in the number of tigers all throughout India.
