CORONA! THE WORD YOU HEAR EVERY MINUTE.

A lot of news is going on in the media, whatapp and internet regarding the COVID-19.

It has been declared as a pandemic, its panic everywhere, huge no. of deaths around the world.

What is a pandemic?

A pandemic is used for a disease when if affects countries in multiple continents.

Why is there so much panic?

It is a disease which spreads very easily from one person to other person who comes in contact with the affected individual. The mortality is higher in the older generation due to a weaker immune system and also the other associated co-morbities.

what does it do?

CORONAVIRUS, family coronaviridae is a virus that attacks the lungs(respiratory system) of an individual.

now, how does it spread?

if there is an individual who has contracted the virus can spread it through:

the droplets after he sneezes, if another person is in close contact will get the virus by inhaling those droplets.

not just sneeze also being in close vicinity with this person while talking

if this person uses his hands to cover the mouth or touches his mouth, the viruses are now attached to his hands, any surface afterwards he touches with that particular hand will deposit the virus on the surface touched, so now if a person directly shakes hand with him or touches that particular surface will have virus on his hands, if he puts his hand in mouth, nose, or eyes; the virus will enter his body.

sharing food, physical contact (hugs, kisses etc) will lead to the spread.

this is why SOCIAL DISTANCING is important.

WASHING HANDS frequently is important.

NOT TOUCHING YOUR EYES, NOSE, MOUTH is important.

symptoms: dry cough, fever, difficulty in breathing.

incubation period:14days

if a person contracts the virus,

it's important that person isolates and seeks proper medical treatment because he will not get well on it's own. The condition can get so severe that even ventilator can be needed for assistance in breathing.

if the person doesn't isolate he can infect people around him, and people who have come in contact with the infected person shall also isolate because symptoms take time to come.

it is also very important to understand it is not occuring because of animals (chicken, bats, goat, dog, cat)

you might have heard it started because of bats somewhere, NO, IT DIDNT.

what bats caused was SARS (severe acute respiratory symptoms) not the coronavirus.

so, animals shall not be thrown out on streets after reading any fake news.

also, don't believe fake news claiming to consume alcohol or other things will help prevent Corona.

all that will help is the better hygiene practices.

stay home!

stay safe..!
