Answer:

So I calculate the gm of NaCl to produce 2.5 M in 20 ml and also the gm needed of sodium citrate to produce 2.5 M in 20 ml?

let's say 20 gm of NaCl required to be dissolved in 20 ml H2O to produce 2.5 Mand assume 10 gm of Na citrate is required to produce 2.5 M, so I will dissolve 20 gm NaCl & 10 gm of Na citrate in 20 ml H2O?

Or I prepare 10 ml of each solution and mix them to get 20 ml of solution containingthe 2 solutes

Correct option is

D

24 ml

The relationship between the molarity and volume is, M

1

×V

1

=M

2

×V

2

.

Substituting values in the above expression,

0.5M×16ml=0.20M×V

2

Hence, V

2

=40ml

Hence, the volume of water required to make 0.20 M solution from 16 ml of 0.5 M solution is 40ml−16ml=24ml.
