Explanation:

We salute APJ Abdul Kalam and celebrate his monumental achievements as a Scientist, Scholar and the President of India. We fondly remember his passion for teaching education and for reading. Dr. Kalam truly ignited young minds with the power to think and innovate. Dr. Kalam is not with us today but his thoughts, ideals and vision for India live on forever.

15th Oct’2015 , the birthday of late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was celebrated in Carmel Convent High School as “Reading Day”.All of us came to school as usual in the morning, but the students of Std III to VIII did not carry books , instead story books, novels, and magazine for provided and we were supposed to read . We had an assembly in Mother Veronica Hall . Our Chief Guest for the day was Sr. Joseph Tuscano. He grew up to be a great person, well known in the society who has written more than 70 books. Our Principal Sr. Sushma , Sir Francis and the Chief Guest Sir. Joseph Tuscano expressed their view and gave us a lesson for life, it was simple but at the time inspiring. We were shown two videos, one was based on the importance of reading and other was about small incident from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s life. It was indeed awesome. All students whose hobby is reading were felicitated by the chief guest. The assembly came to end with the vote of thanks. Sr. Sushma had also arranged a book exhibition for us. We had to write a summary about the book we read, this was done to check how much each one read and also to improve our writing skills. It was indeed a great experience for every student. I thank our principal Sr. Sushma , all the Teachers and Cabinet Members who worked hard to make this “Reading Day a grand success and a memorable one. Report by : Christina Fernandes VIII B

Explanation:

:Good morning Respected Principal, Dear teachers and all my friends. It is my privilege today, being ‘Reading Day’, to address all of you about the benefits of reading. Why is reading important? It is important because it is a habit that can make you a better person. Biographies of great men and women tell us that most of them became great because of the inspiration they got from reading books especially during their childhood days. This day is observed every year on 15th October as it is the birth anniversary of our late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam who strongly advocated ‘reading’ more as a necessity rather than just a mere hobby.

Books not only inspire us, but they also provide knowledge. Even though technology has brought in many changes to the way we read, it has only enhanced our ability to get connected to different sources of knowledge through reading. Reading has several merits. It keeps us connected with the outside world. It enriches and expands our vocabulary and develops the skill of concentration. Reading provides us with pure enjoyment and sheer pleasure. It is to be noted that reading exposes our mind to different cultures and languages of the world. It helps us to digest the best that different regions of the world like Asia and the Middle East, America, Europe, and Africa have to offer us. As our minds are exposed to such a wealth of ideas through reading, it helps us to communicate with depth of thought and a wide mixture of emotional colours as well.
