‘Amigo Brothers’ is a book written by Piri Thomas (1928 – 2011) and published in 1978.
It is the story about two close friends living in New York, who take up boxing and must one day, face each other to decide who is the best and qualify to the big-time world of international boxing.
Antonio Cruz and Felix Vargas both have grown up together and were good friends. Like all friends do, they take up boxing and come up in the local ranks through several minor bouts. Finally, it is announced that they have to fight each other to decide who will go to the next higher level. As the day for this important bout gets closer, they find that, they are both fighting their inner demons. They did not want to hurt each other.
The bout between Antonio and Felix turn out to be a nail-biter for the audience, but after fighting ferociously for three rounds, when the referee is about to announce the winner, they both walk away from the ring, hands on each other’s shoulders!
