I got some popular solid salts in my laboratory.

e.g., NaCl , AlCl3 , NaHCO3 , NH4Cl and more .

we know, for formation of NaCl, require parent acid is HCl and parent base is NaOH .both are strong in nature so, NaCl is neutral salt.

now, when aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide is added to these , solution will be basic in nature because NaOH is strong basic in nature . means reaction between NaCl and NaOH doesn't happen .

e.g., NaCl + NaCl → ×

formation of AlCl3 : parent acid is HCl and parent basic is Al(OH)3. here HCl is strong acid while Al(OH)3 is weak base so, AlCl3 is acidic in nature in aqueous solution.

now, when aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide is added to these. solution will be basic in nature . because reaction between AlCl3 and NaOH is ....

AlCl3 + NaOH → Al(OH)3 {basic } + NaCl

formation of NaHCO3 : parent acid is H2CO3 and parent base is NaOH. here parent acid is weak while parent base is strong then, aqueous solution of NaHCO3 is basic in nature.

now, when aqueous solution of NaOH is added to these, solution is formed Na2CO3 and H2O . well, as you know NaOH is also in basic in nature but it is stronger than NaHCO3 so, NaHCO3 acts as acidic in nature. we all know reaction between acid and base is salt.

reaction is NaHCO3 + NaOH → Na2CO3 + H2O.

formation of NH4Cl : parent acid is HCl and parent base is NH3 . here parent acid , HCl is storng while parent base , NH3 is weak compare to them, so aqueous solution of NH4Cl is acidic in nature.

when aqueous solution of NaOH is added to these, solution is formed NaCl, NH3 and H2O

reaction is NH4Cl + NaOH → NaCl + NH3 + H2O.
