a. Tropic of Cancer
The Tropic of Cancer is the northernmost circle of latitude at which the Sun can be directly overhead on Earth. It is at 23°30' North of the Equator. It passes through eight states in India: Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Tripura, and Mizoram.
b. Standard Meridian
The time of the standard meridian of India is taken as the standard time for the entire country. The standard meridian of India is 82°30'E and passes through Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh.
c. Latitudinal extent and longitudinal extent
- The latitudinal extent of India is from 37°6′N to 8°4′N. It is from the north end in Kashmir to the south end in Kanniyakumari.
- The longitudinal extent of India is 68°7′E to 97°25′E. It is from west end in Gujarat to east end in Arunachal Pradesh.
d. Southernmost point of India
The southernmost point of India is Indira Point in the Nicobar Islands which is 6°4′ N. Kanyakumari is the southernmost point of the Indian mainland which is 8°4′ N.
e. Northernmost point of India
The northernmost point of India is Indira Col located in Siachen Muztagh at an elevation of 18,911 feet.
f. Easternmost Point of India
Kibithu is the easternmost point of the country. located in Arunachal Pradesh. It is located on the LAC at 28°16′49″N 97°01′04″E.
g. Westernmost point of India
The westernmost point of India is the village of Ghuar Moti located in Gujarat. It is at 23.713°N 68.032°E.
