ACTIVE VOICE AND PASSIVE VOICE

Gererlly a sentence standard form is S+V+O (subject+verb+object) and we know that subject and object are either doer or receiver of the action.

So to make sure english grammar is specific our greatgrand instructors have decided to divide the sentences when

•the subject is doer of the action and

•the subject is reciever of the action.

Let's take an example:

Hazel writes poems.

Here, the subject is Hazel, action writing , object is poems.

When the subject does the action it is called an Active voice. But some cleverly thoughtful student once stated Poems are written by Hazel.

Here subject, poem, is reciever of the action and thus a passive voice.

[We can also state it as active voice when object is reciever of the action and passive voice when object is doer of the action, this all secondary].

By now you must be clear on what is Active voice and what is Passive voice.

Now there are 12 kinds of tenses and there are certain rules you must follow while changing an active into passive. Like in the given example, in passive (generally) by is added. Let me give this example in all the tenses and in both the voices (to make you understand the rules)

PRESENT SIMPLE

AV- Hazel writes poems.

PV- Poems are written by Hazel.

PRESENT CONTINUOUS

AV- Hazel is writing poems.

PV- Poems are being written by Hazel.

PRESENT PERFECT

AV- Hazel has written poems.

PV- Poems have been written by Hazel

PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS

AV- Hazel has been writing poems.

(NO PASSIVE VOICE)

PAST SIMPLE

AV- Hazel wrote poems.

PV-Poems were written by Hazel.

PAST CONTINUOUS

AV- Hazel was writing poems.

PV- Poems were being written by Hazel.

PAST PERFECT

AV- Hazel had written poems.

PV- Poems had been written by Hazel.

PAST PERFECT CONTINUOUS

AV- Hazel had been writing poems

(NO PASSIVE VOICE)

FUTURE SIMPLE

AV- Hazel will write poems

PV- Poems will be written by Hazel.

FUTURE CONTINUOUS

AV- Hazel will be writing poems.

PV- Poems will have been written by Hazel.

FUTURE PERFECT

AV- Hazel will have written poems.

(NO PV)

FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS

AV-Hazel will have been writing poems

(NO PV)

To understand this you must clearly have a strong grip on tenses.

I would love to take the topic TENSES but I had and have trouble explaining... so... yeah

If you want I'll edit the answer and add the standard forms if you think it's eaier to understand it that way... but I prefer it this way... anyways.. it's upto you.

Hope you understand!

Any doubts drop in comments I'll get back to you at the earliest.
