Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen and all Animal Lovers,
I, Shalini Suri, take this opportunity to greet all of you on the occasion of 'Animals' Day'.
The great Upanishads assert that God resides in every animal. It is my strong belief that He not only resides in them but also performs several acts of kindness which under similar circumstances are not performed by Man.
It is true that God resides in Man too, but Man's supersonic brain gets the better of him and turns him into a selfish monster.
A few days back in a desolate street of Kolkata a newborn baby girl was discarded by her mother in a roadside dustbin. The poor baby was wailing with cold and hunger. Some street dogs spotted her and raised an alarm.
They protected her as if she belonged to them and allowed an old lady to come and touch her and take her to the hospital following her all the way.
In a similar manner a cat nestled a new born baby in Russia which had been discarded in the snow. It curled round the baby the whole night to prevent the little one freezing from cold.
It is no wonder that Jesus chose to be born in a manger among innocent and caring animals.
Anecdotes are aplenty when it comes to animal kindness. Wasn't Mowgli, the jungle boy in Kipling's legendary 'The Jungle Book' brought up by wild animals in the jungle?
It is just not a story. Many animals have actually raised human orphan babies.
There are instances of loyal animals who have forever waited for their masters who have either deserted them or have died. The heart touching incident of Hachiko the famous Japanese Akita dog who waited patiently till death at the station for his dead master to return.
The list of animal kindness is never ending. Thus it may be concluded that ”Animals can prove to be kinder and much less selfish than human beings”.
