prepare the following solution and write your observation with their diagrams:-
A) a true solution of common salt, sugar and alum in water
B) a suspension of soil, chalk powder and fine sand in water
C)a colloidal solution of starch in water and egg albumin in water and distinguish between these on the basis of:-
i)transperency
ii)filteration criterion
iii)stability
Answers
Answer:
A) Hi there,
Steps to prepare a True Solution of Common salt, Sugar, and Alum:
Step1: Take three cleaned Beakers and label them A, B, C respectively.
Step2: Add 100 ml of Water in each of them.
Step3: Add 10g of Powdered Common Salt, Sugar, and alum in each Beaker.
Step4: Stir the Solution by using Glass rod.
Step5: Transfer the solution into the test tubes and label them as A, B, C respectively.
Step6: Note the observation.
B) It is the solution in which the solute size is more than 100 nm .
Properties of suspension
It is a heterogeneous mixture.
Particle size is more than 1000 nm (10-6 m) and can be seen with naked eyes.
The particles of suspension, in its suspended form scatter a beam of light, i.e., shows Tyndall effect.
It is unstable.
The particles can be separated by filtration.
It is opaque.
To prepare a suspension of soil, chalk powder and fine sand in water. Suspension of sand in water:
Take say 100 mL of distilled water in a beaker
To it add say, 10 g of fine sand in it.
Set well using a glass rod.
In few minutes you will see the suspension gets ready .
