Prepare your own indicator  Crush beetroot in a mortar.  Add sufficient water to obtain the extract.  Filter the extract by the procedure learnt by you in earlier classes.  Collect the filtrate to test the substances you may have tasted earlier.  Arrange four test tubes in a test tube stand and label them as A,B,C and D. Pour 2 ml each of lemon juice solution, soda-water, vinegar and baking soda solution in them respectively.  Put 2-3 drops of the beetroot extract in each test tube and note the colour change if any. Write your observation in a Table.

The beet root juice acts as an indicator
We can use it to determine the ph of the solution
That is the reason why it is added into samples having different acidity or bacisity
This of performed as an activity

Answer:

Explanation:

Table: Observation of Colour Changes with Different Substances

Test Tube Substance Colour Change

A               Lemon juice

B                Soda water

C                Vinegar

D               Baking soda

Observations:

In test tube A (Lemon juice): [Write the colour change observed]

In test tube B (Soda water): [Write the colour change observed]

In test tube C (Vinegar): [Write the colour change observed]

In test tube D (Baking soda): [Write the colour change observed]

Regarding the use of other natural materials like Red Cabbage leaves, coloured petals of flowers (such as Petunia, China Rose), and Turmeric as indicators, you can follow a similar procedure as mentioned above. Prepare extracts of these materials, use them in separate test tubes, and test them with the substances mentioned (lemon juice, soda water, vinegar, and baking soda). Note down the colour changes observed in each test tube and record them in a table.

Regarding the Tie and Dye technique, you can explore using these natural indicators to create designs on various textiles and materials. For example, you can dip a fabric (handkerchief, bedspread, bag, belt, curtain, cushion cover, table mat, tray cloth, etc.) into the indicator solutions or apply the solutions directly to create patterns or designs. Once the designs are made, let the fabric dry and set the colours. This way, you can create unique and vibrant patterns using natural materials and the Tie and Dye technique.
