Plaster of paris is chemically known as calcium sulphate hemihydrate. It can be obtained by heating gypsum carefully to a temperature of 373 Kelvin in a kiln.

CaSO4.2H2O ----∆[373K]-----> CaSO4.1/2H2O + 3/2H2O

★Gypsum upon strong heating changes to plaster of paris which upon hydration gives back gypsum.
