Yes. It is right to say that presence of mind and courage are tools to curb the threat or danger. when the narrator was encountered the snake, he was shocked but he never made a movement. He kept himself still like lifeless. The snake didn't mind it and thought of him as a thing. So, the snake didn't attack or bit him. soon ,he ran away and the the narrator succeeded to save his life. It was outcome of his presence of mind and courage.
