GIVEN :-

  • A denominator is greater than it's numerator by 5.
  • Numerator is increased by 6 and the denominator is decreased by 4.
  • Obtained number is 3/2.

TO FIND :-

  • The rational number = ?

SOLUTION :-

Let, the numerator be x

Therefore, denominator is x + 5.

Hence, Rational number = x/x + 5

A.T.Q

=> Numerator is increased by 6 = x + 6

=> Denominator is decreased by 4 = x + 5 - 4 = x + 1.

Hence, Rational number = x + 6/x + 1

A.T.Q

=> X + 6/X + 1 = 3/2

By cross multiplication

=> 2(x + 6) = 3(x + 1)

=> 2x + 12 = 3x + 3

=> 2x - 3x = 3 - 12

=> -x = -9

=> x = 9

Hence required rational number = x/x + 5

= 9/9 + 5

= 9/14

Hence required rational number is 9/14.
