SOLUTION

Present age of mother is 40 years and that of her daughter is 14 years.

TO DETERMINE

The ratio of age of mother to the age of daughter when mother was 30 years old

EVALUATION

Here it is given that Present age of mother is 40 years and that of her daughter is 14 years.

Now when mother was 30 years old it means we have to go back 10 years

So 10 years ago

Age of mother = 30 years

Age of daughter = 14 - 10 = 4 years

Hence the required ratio of age of mother to the age of daughter when mother was 30 years old is

= 10 : 4

 = 5 : 2
