Let the present age of Rohan be x

and that of Poonam be y.

As per statement,

➵ x = 2 + 2y

Four years ago:

Age of Rohan = (x-4)

Age of Poonam = (y-4)

⟹ (x-4) = 8(y-4) [∵ x = 2 + 2y]

⟹ 2+2y-4 = 8(y-4)

⟹ 2y-2 = 8y-32

⟹ 32-2 = 8y+2y

⟹ 30 = 10y

∴ y = 30/10 = 3

So, present age of:

Poonam = y = 3 years

Rohan = x = 2+2y = 2+6 = 8 years
