let the present age of james is 5x and age of paul is 4x
3 years after
5x+3/4x+3 = 11/9
cross multiplication
45x +27 = 44x + 33
x = 6
so present age of james is 5x = 5*6 = 30
anf of paul is 4x = 4 * 6 = 24

Let the present age of James be 5x
and Paul's be 4x

After three years ,

James age :- ( 5x + 3 )
Paul's age :- ( 4x + 3 )

 \frac{5 x + 3}{4x + 3}  =  \frac{11}{9}

45x + 27 = 44x + 33

45x - 44x = 33 - 27

x = 6

Paul's present age is :- 4x
4 × 6 = 24 years .
