Let x and y be the present ages of John and Paul

So,

x/y = 5/4.................1)

According to the second condition,

(x+3)/(y+3) = 11/9

9x + 27 = 11y + 33

9x - 11y = 6.................2)

From 1) and 2)

9 × (5/4) y - 11y = 6

45y/4 - 11y = 6

(45y -44y)/4 =6

y=24

Substituting y=24 in equation 1)

x = (5×24)/4

x = 30

So,

The present ages of John and Paul are 30 and 24 years respectively

Hope this helps !!!!!!!!
