Present age

Ratio = Sameer : Anand = 5 : 4 (Given)

Let x be the constant ratio:

Ratio = Sameer : Anand = 5x : 4x

3 years later:

Sameer = 5x + 3

Anand = 4x + 3

3 years later:

Ratio = Sameer : Anand = 11 : 9 (Given)

let y be the constant ratio:

Ratio = Sameer : Anand = 11y : 9y

Form equations:

5x + 3 = 11y ----------------  [ 1 ]

4x + 3 = 9y ----------------  [ 2 ]

[ 1 ] x 4 : 20x + 12 = 44y   ----------------  [ 3 ]

[ 2 ] x 5 : 20x + 15 = 45y ----------------  [ 4 ]

[ 4 ] - [ 3 ]: y = 3  ----------------  Sub into  [ 1 ]

5x + 3 = 11 (3)

5x + 3 = 33

5x = 30

x = 6

Find Ananda's age:

Ananda = 4x = 4(6) = 24 years old

Answer: (a) 24 years old
