Demat means the preservation of physical securities into electronic form.

It is a process where the securities like debentures, shares are converted into electronic data.

These data are stored in a computer depository. In India, there are two types of depository. Ther are NSDL and CDSL.

A demat account can be formed by through the help of the following steps:

•    You should pick a stockbroker or The DP.

•    Fill up the registration form and attach necessary documents. The signing of a POA document is also required here.

•    Once the documents are dispatched the stockbroker will perform an in-person verification

•    In the final step, the stockbroker will verify all the details and will create the client ID and account number for you.
