so population at end of 1st year = 625 +  4% of 625

= 625 + ( 4 / 100 ) x 625

= 625 + ( 625 x 4 / 100 )

population at end of 2nd year = 650 + 4% of 650

= 650 + ( 4 / 100 ) x 650

= 650 + ( 650 x 4 / 100 )

= 676

so population at the end of second year = 676
