United States and China declared that they would from then recognize themselves and establish official diplomatic relations. This came to effectiveness since January 1, 1979. The government of People Republic China was recognized as legal government of China by US. Taiwan’s support system was removed. Jimmy Carter became the most famous US president among the Chinese people owing to this bold action.
