Answer: True

Explanation:

President has the authority to impose `President's Rule' in a state. There are three types of emergencies which a President can undertake

  • National
  • State
  • Financial

Under article 356 of the Indian Constitution, a state of emergency can be imposed in a state only after the Governor`s recommendation of the state.  This state of emergency is referred  as 'President's Rule'.

The President if convinced by the report submitted by the Governor of the said state or by other sources, that the prevailing state government can not carry out their governance as per the provisions laid out in the Constitution, he/she may impose an state of emergency in the state. However it must be  approved within two months by the Parliament.

Initially it is imposed for a period of six months which can however extend  for maximum  three years but only after repeated approval from parliamentary every six months.

Hope this helps.
