Explanation:-

the atmospheric pressure is pushing on the surface of the liquid. The height of column and density of liquid gives the weight of the liquid , this weight is further pulled down by the force of gravity. So on one side you have upward forces balanced by the downward forces on the other side.

If you substitute the values for water you will get the value of about 10 meters which indeed is the height of water column supported by atmospheric pressure
