Given:

Price: 4, 6, 8, 15, 20

Supply: 10, 15, 20, 25, 30

To find:

Calculate arithmetic mean using Short-cut method (Assumed mean method)

Solution:

Price     Supply     fX     Deviation     fd

(X)            (f)                    d = X - A

                                         A = 8

4              10          40          -4          -40

6              15          90          -2          -30

8(A)         20        160          0             0

15            25        375          7           175

20           30        600         12          360

          ∑f = 100                             ∑fd = 465

X_m_e_a_n = A + \frac{\sum fd}{\sum f}

X_mean = 8 + 465/100

X_mean = 8 + 4.65

X_mean = 12.65

Therefore, arithmetic mean is 12.65
