Let ,

Price of DVD player before VAT is added = Rs x

$\sf ∴ Value \: added \: to \: tax \: ( VAT ) = \frac{12}{100} x$

$\sf Price \: including \: VAT = x + \frac{12}{100} x$

$⟹ \sf \: x \: + \frac{12}{100} x = 4480$

$\sf = \frac{112x}{100} = 4480$

$\red⟹ x = 4000$
