Dear Student,
Given below is the answer to your question.

Vanity or pride causes a man to stay ahead and above others, as a result of the ego within. This is true with Mrs. Packletide who was very selfish and greedy for more. The very motive behind her aim to kill a tiger was to be equal with Loona Bimberton who was praised and exalted as a result of personally procuring a tiger. She did not realise that the task was not a small or easy one. But, she was willing to attempt any method for achieving her goal. She was already dreaming about the lunch that she would give following the events and the glory that she would receive. Therefore there are two evidences that point to the pride of Mrs. Packletide. One, she was not accepting the challenge to be adventurous, but instead to receive a upper hand over Loona Bimberton. Secondly, she was imagining something that was probable to happen in the future. These reason finally lead to her downfall. The tiger that she intended to kill, did not die from her shot but from the shock of the wrong animal that was killed. As a result of this, Louisa Mebbin blackmailed her about revealing the truth.
