Mrs. Packletide shot the goat instead of the tiger. Mrs.mebbin saw this and started to black mail Mrs.Packletide.. She did everything for Mrs.Mebbin, so that she does not say about this incident to anyone. This was pride for her but not a real pride( because she did not shoot tiger properly). Hence pride goes after a fall
