PRIME MINISTER'S AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE

IPAA AWARD PROGRAMS IN 2020

In recent years, IPAA ACT has run both the Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Sector Management and the Public Sector Innovation Awards. These have run in parallel with each other throughout the calendar year. The development of the IPAA ACT 2019-2022 Strategic Plan included consultation with departments and agencies, which indicated that a single award program would be a more effective use of IPAA and nominating organisation’s resources into the future.

Following on from the strategic planning, the decision was made by IPAA’s governing Council in February 2020 that we will move to a single award program commencing in early 2021. The new award program will be a fresh approach that takes the key elements from the Prime Minister’s and Innovation Awards, but which also builds on feedback from our membership base. The Kennedy Award, introduced in 2019 in honour of Kerry Kennedy, will continue to be a key part of the new award program.

IPAA ACT will proceed with running one award program in 2020, reflecting the feedback from the market that one program is preferable to two. The Public Sector Innovation Awards will be run with nominations opening on Monday 16 March. There will be no changes to the Public Sector Innovation Awards this year, which will be run in partnership Spark at the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources.

The Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Sector Management will not be run in 2020. We will instead use this time and energy to design and develop the new program for 2021, including a thorough testing and review process. A number of key personnel from the Prime Minister’s Awards will be the main architects of the new award program, building on their considerable experience over many years.
