This was because Private Quelch believed he was superior to others. If someone made a mistake, he would publicly correct him. He lectured to them relentlessly in his monotonous voice. They got sick of him and hit back at him with sarcastic comments and practical jokes.

Private was a very hardworking and intelligent fellow, but he lacked some qualities which soon brought a turning point in his life. Private always tried to outshine his fellow trainees and always over showed his talents and abilities to others . He always corrected his colleagues as well as his seniors publicly as a result he soon became unpopular and irritating to everyone
