Given : Priya offers 4.8% discount on the marked price of a toy car and gives 1 toy car free on buying all the 16 toy cars and thus gains 40%.

To Find :  The marked price of the toy car is above the cost price by:

Solution:

Let say Cost Price =1000C

and Marked price = 1000M

Priya offers 4.8% discount on the marked price

=> SP = 1000M - (4.8/100)1000M

=> SP = 952M

Sale price of 16 = 16 * 952M

gives 1 toy car free on buying all the 16 toy cars

=> Total CP  = 17 * 1000C  = 17000C

gains 40%.

=> SP =  17000C + (40/100) * 17000C

= 17000C + 6800C

= 23800C

16 * 952M  = 23800C

=> M =1.5625C

=> M = C + 0.5625C

=> M = C + (56.25 % of C)

The marked price of the toy car is above the cost price by:  56.25 %

Solution :-

Let marked price of toy car is Rs.100x .

→ D1 = 4.8%

→ D2 = 1 toy car free on buying 16 toy cars = (1 * 100)/17 = (100/17) = (1/17)

so,

→ SP = MP * (100 - D1)/100 * (100 - D2)/100

→ SP = (100x * 95.2 * 16)/100 * 17

→ SP = Rs 89.6x .

now,

→ SP = Rs. 89.6x

→ gain = 40% .

then,

→ CP = (SP * 100)/(100 + gain%) = (89.6x * 100)/140 = Rs.64x .

therefore,

→ MP - CP = 100x - 64x = Rs. 32x

hence,

→ Required % = (32x * 100) / 100x = 32% (Ans.)
