Priya poured a litre of water into a pot filled with garden soil weighing
1.5kg. The pot had a whole at its base through which water seeped out and
was collected in a beaker. After a while, she measured the amount of water
in the beaker and found it to be 450ml. Find the percentage of water absorption of the soil.

Answer:

Priya poured a litre of water into a pot = 1000 ml

amount of water leaked = 450 ml

Amount of water absorbed = 1000 - 450 = 550 ml = 550 cm³

Density of Water = 1000 kg/m³ = 1 g/cm³

Weight of Absorbed Water = 550 * 1 = 550 gm

Total Weight in pot = 1.5 kg

Water Weight = 550 g

Weight of Soil = 1500 - 550 = 950 gm

percentage of water absorption of the soil = (550/950) * 100 = 57.9 %
