2. Dont hold the thermometer by the bulb while reading it cause it contains harmful chemical

3. Dont dip the thermometer in boiling water as it will break the bulb

4. Read the thermometer by holding it horizontally so as to keep the level of mercury along the line if sight

5. Avoid keeping the thermometer in the sunlight or near a flame, it may break.
