Question :

what is the probability of event E + event not E

Answer :

maximum of probability of any event is 1. hence the sum of probability of event E and event not E must be 1

Verification :

A die is threw what will be the probability of getting odd number + not getting odd number

probability =  \frac{favorable \: outcome}{sample \: space}

Sample space = { 1,2,3,4,5,6 }

Let A be geeing an odd number and B be not getting an odd number. ( not an odd number must be a even number )

A = { 1,3,5 )

n(A) = 3

B = { 2,4,6 }

n(B) = 3

probability \: of \: getting \: odd \: number \:  =  \frac{n(A)}{n(S)} \\  =  \frac{3}{6}  \\  = \frac{1}{2} </p><p>

probability \: of \: not \: getting \: odd \: number =  \frac{n(B)}{n(S) }  \\  =  \frac{3}{6}  \\  =  \frac{1}{2}

probability of getting odd number + not getting odd number = \frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{2}

 \frac{1 + 1}{2}  =  \frac{2}{2}  = 1
