Probability question. A jar contains 24 marbles, some are green and others are blue. If a marble is drawn at random from the jar, the probability that it is green is 2/3. Find the number if blue balls in the jar.​

Given : A jar contains total 24 green and blue marbles. If a marble is drawn at random from the jar, the probability that it is green is 2/3.

To find : the number of blue balls in the jar.

Solution :

Total number of favourable outcomes = 24

Let there be x green marbles.

Therefore Favourable number of outcomes = x

∴ P(Green ball) =  \dfrac{x}{24}

But P(Green ball) =  \dfrac{2}{3}

\therefore\sf\implies \dfrac{x}{24}  =  \dfrac{2}{3}

\implies x \times 3 = 24 \times 2 \\ \sf \implies x = \dfrac{48}{3}  \\\sf \implies  x = 16

Therefore, number of green marbles are 16

And number of blue marbles = 24 – 16 = 8

we have to find here the numbers of blue balls .

let the green Marbles be x .

therefore favourable outcome = x

Now,

we have to find the nos. of green balls first ;

So,

(p) = x/24

But (p)=2/3

Then ,

=>x/24=2/3

=>x×3=24×2

=>3x=48

=>x=48/3

=>x=16

so the numbers of green ball is 16 .

to find the number of blue ball we have to subtract 24 with 16

So ,

24-16=8

so the numbers of blue ball is 8 .
