Explanation:

Given An alloy of tin and lead contain 73% tin. Find the mass of eutectic in 1 kg of solid alloy if the eutectic contains 64% of tin

  • So 1 kg alloy will contain 730 g tin (73/100 x 1000) and 1000 – 730 = 270 g of lead.
  • Now tin is 64% in the eutectic composition and so lead will be 36%
  • Therefore taking 270 g of lead, the mass of tin in eutectic will be
  •                                                                                      = 270 x 64 / 36
  •                                                                                        = 480 g
  • Therefore total mass of eutectic in the alloy will be
  •                                                                                             = 270 + 480
  •                                                                                             = 750 g
