Given :  On a set of steps, the first step from the base of the steps is labeled 1 , , the second is labeled 2 and so on.

Each step has the same height

The table below shows the step number and step's height from the base of the steps.

Steps    Height

50          10

90          18

110          22

To Find : an equation to describe the relationship between n the step number, and h , the height from the base.

Solution:

Steps n    Height h

50          10

90          18

110          22

Slope  = (18 - 10)/(90 - 50)

=  8/40

= 1/5

h  - 10  = (1/5)(n - 50)

=> 5h - 50 = n - 50

=> 5h = n

=> h  = n/5

h  = n/5  or  5h = n

is the relationship between n the step number, and h , the height from the base.
