There are many problems faced by ragpickers which include health as well as financial issues.

Some of which are:

1)The cost of polythene is very less.

2)A time-consuming task, which forces them to stay for a long time in dumpyard and get affected by several germs and bacteria.

3)The polythenes could not be recycled.

4)The demand for polyethenes in the market is also decreasing rapidly causing some high profile polyethene menace

Problems faced by ragpickers due to the plastic and polythene menace:

For rag-pickers of India, the problems are varied and critical.

  • In this age of plastic dominance and polythene usage, majority of households throw their garbage out within those plastics.
  • It is the job of the rag pickers to pick from the garbage and salvage out objects that can be resold and recycled. As the price of polythene and plastics is very less, they earn much less that what they used to.
  • Also, to salvage out objects they need to spend more time in the dump-yards thereby subjecting themselves to diseases and germs.
