Carbonate ores must undergo the process of CALCINATION before it is reduced to its respective metal.

Calcination is the process of heating the ore in abscence of oxygen or limited supply of oxygen to convert it to an oxide ore.

Example:
ZnCO3 ------> ZnO + CO2
