For administering first aid, the following steps should be kept in mind.

The wound should be cleaned immediately under running clean water.

This should be followed by application of antiseptic such as antiseptic creams or tincture of iodine.

After completing this, a bandage should be applied. In severe cases, CPR might have to be performed to initiate respiration.
