- Ethanol and carbon dioxide are the products of alcoholic fermentation.
Anaerobic respiration -
- It occurs in the absence of oxygen.
- Oxygen is not required in anaerobic respiration.
- An electron transport chain is not required in anaerobic respiration.
- Mitochondrial is not required in anaerobic respiration.
- In this process, less amount of energy is produced.
- In anaerobic respiration, each molecule of glucose produces 2 molecules of ATP.
- The end product of anaerobic respiration is generally toxic.
- It occurs in the cytoplasm only.
The process of anaerobic respiration is named fermentation in the microorganism. They are classified into two categories. They are :
- Alcoholic Fermentation
- Lactic Acid Fermentation
Alcoholic Fermentation :
- This process takes place in yeast.
- It produces beer, toddy, cheese, wine, and champagne.
Lactic Acid Fermentation :
- This process occurs in bacteria.
- It produces yogurt and sauerkraut.

The products which are formed during the process of Alcoholic Fermentation are :-
- Ethanol
- EthanolCarbon Dioxide
- Alcoholic Fermentation is the chemical reaction which deals with the conversion of 1 mole of glucose (C6H12O6) into 2 moles of ethanol, along with 2 moles of Carbon dioxide (CO2).
- The formula of ethanol is C2H6O.
- It does not have an colour and is considered as a harmful compound.
- Ethanol is primarily used for intoxicating ( which means to active the alcoholic flavour ) various drinks and beverages which includes vine, beer.
- Carbon dioxide is a very important gas which does not have any colour and smell.
- The type of bonding in the Carbon dioxide is covalent bonding, since both carbon and oxygen are considered as non-metal.
