Photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process by which plants, some bacteria and some protistans use the energy from sunlight to produce glucose from carbon dioxide and water. This glucose can be converted into pyruvate which releases adenosine triphosphate (ATP) by cellular respiration. Oxygen is also formed.

Answer:

Glucose is the immediate product of photosynthesis which is utilised by the plant and extra glucose is stored in form of starch in the leaves. As glucose gets utilised so its presence cannot be detected. But starch is stored in plants and it can be easily detected, hence production of starch is often used as a measure of photosynthesis in leaves.
