When ester is treated with Sodium Hydroxide, Glycerol (Ethanol) and a Sodium salt of Carboxylic Acid (Sodium Ethanoate) is formed.

Reaction is as follows,

CH3COOC2H5 + NaOH → CH3COONa + CH3CH2OH

(This reaction is called Saponification reaction because it is used in the preparation of soaps).....

When Easter is Hydrolised with 20 percen to Sodium Hydroxide it gives the salts of corresponding Carboxylic acid and alcahol.

                             20 precent NaOH

CH₃COOC₂H₅ ------------------------------------------>   CH₃COONa + C₂H₅OH
