Book Review

Books are one's best friends. They are unselfish, undemanding and friends in need. Recently due to the bad weather and the biting cold I was totally confined to stay inside. Life was a complete bore till I chanced upon a book- a recent birthday present from my uncle.

The name of the book was ' Man's Search for Meaning', by Doctor Viktore Frankl. The book is an autobiographical work. Doctor Frankl is a renowned Psychiatrist and is famous for 'logotherapy'.

The book deals with the author's gruesome experience in the Nazi camp. It is the first book of its kind that discloses the horrors of living in the concentration camp through the point of view of a Jew who actually experienced it.

Though the subject matter is extremely grave and sad the book creates an urge to live and look forward to a positivity of life.

As the title suggests the author, in spite of all the hardships he faced, and the extreme sorrow of losing his wife in another concentration camp, lives on with optimism to fulfill his search for meaning.

The book is divided into two parts- part one deals with 'Experiences in a Concentration Camp'; part two deals with-,' Logotherapy in a Nutshell'.

The book although not too voluminous speaks a lot. It is a classic tribute to hope from the Holocaust.

The language is lucid and the style of  writing very optimistic.

The book has sold over twelve million copies.

It is a book that has taught me to live for a meaning in life. It has created in me an optimism and thankfulness to the Almighty for gifting me the life of a human being.

I would recommend everyone to read this book.
