There are basically two parts in the volume of a soap that is:-

  • Alkyl group.
  • Corboxyl group.

The alkyl group are basically oil soluble whereas the corboxyl group is generally water soluble .

Various soaps has various unique properties which is generally determined by the length of the carbon chain and also the type of  fatty acid used.

The fatty acids are sometimes insoluble which has no chains.

The procedure is as follows :-

  • Firstly we have to take 5 conical flask which is each of 100 ml
  • Then 50 ml water is poured in each conical flask.
  • Then we have to heat it so that it can dissolve.
  • Soap solution is taken in each flask
  • then shake the test tube.
  • Foam is observed in the test tube.
